A leading advocate for agriculture wants to hear more before voicing an opinion on Governor Heineman's proposal to eliminate the income tax.

The governor proposes offsetting the loss of revenue from the elimination of the income tax by eliminating exemptions from sales taxes. But, many of those sales tax exemptions benefit farmers, such as the exemption on farm equipment, fertilizer and chemicals.


The president of the Nebraska Farm Bureau says he wants to hear more before he supports Governor Heineman's call to eliminate the state income tax.
Steve Nelson is concerned about the governor's call to eliminate sales tax exemptions to offset the loss of revenue, noting that farmers benefit from many sales tax exemptions, such as those on equipment and chemicals. . .
