LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A lawmaker has introduced a bill that would boot the governor, attorney general and other elected officials off Nebraska's state employee health insurance plan.
Omaha Sen. Jeremy Nordquist submitted legislation on Thursday that would ban constitutional officers and all members of the Legislature from participating in the plan.
State officials would have to buy their own insurance through the private market. Nordquist says the measure would force them to face the same challenges as other residents who are struggling to afford health care coverage.
The bill would apply to all state lawmakers as well as the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, and state auditor.
