In an effort to curb tragic shootings like the one at the elementary school in Newtown, Conn., gun control is one of the main topics of discussion Capitol Hill. New legislation bands several types of semi-automatic assault weapons, strengthening mental health checks and banning high capacity magazines.
Nebraska U-S Senator Deb Fischer says there is much more to preventing these mass shootings than banning weapons.

Senator Fischer says even though conservatives are in the minority right now she will continue to speak on issues that will impact those she represents.

Conservative lawmakers in Washington are in the minority right now but U-S Senator Deb Fischer says that isn't going to stop her from speaking her mind when it comes to the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.

Fischer; "amendment rights."

In the wake of many mass shootings the Obama Administration wants gun control legislation that would require more extensive background checks, ban semiautomatic guns and ban the sale of high capacity magazines.

 U-S Senator Deb Fischer is thinking of her former colleagues in Lincoln as the new legislative session gets underway.

Fischer; "with new ideas.

Fischer says although it will be a different experience for her watching what the legislature does as an outsider.
