Ben Wallace, fisherman "good shot"
Wallace says the conditions are excellent right now and the fish are biting.

Last winter was a bust for Nebraska's ice fishermen. It was too warm to safely get out on the ice most of the season. This winter, it's a different story. Fishing enthusiast Ben Wallace says the ice is good and solid in virtually all areas of the region and the fish are biting.
Wallace "that's encouraging"
Wallace says to never ice fish alone, always carry or wear a floatation device and check the thickness of the ice frequently.

The bitter cold makes some of us grumble, but the ice fishermen are loving it, especially after last year's warm winter sidelined the sport. Fishing enthusiast Ben Wallace says ice fishing is a lot of fun, but it can also be dangerous if proper precautions aren't taken.
Wallace "thickness frequently"
He says ice thickness can vary greatly in different spots on the same lake. Another tip to remember: there's no such thing as 100-percent safe ice.
