Nebraska U-S Senator Mike Johanns says many Americans can breathe a sigh of relief after Congress passed burned the midnight oil to pass a budget deal before the fall off the fiscal cliff.

Senator Mike Johanns; "to pass up."

Johanns says the middle class tax rates were extended and the payroll tax went away but even with the tax rates there were no meaningful spending cuts made in this budget. He says there is no easy solution to the spending. He says there are five programs that absorb 82-percent of the budget. Those programs are Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, National Defense and interest on the debt.


Nebraska U-S Senator Mike Johanns voted for the last minute budget deal to avoid the fiscal cliff fall. He says the deal that prevented huge tax hikes for many Americans but did not address spending.

Johanns; "interest on the debt."

Johanns says you can escape the country's economic problems by making minor adjustments and it will take years to curb the excessive spending.

Most Americans were spared huge tax increases with the new budget deal. Nebraska U-S Senator Mike Johanns voted to pass the budget that did not address deep spending cuts.
