BLAIR, Neb. (AP) - A small plane that crashed into an eastern Nebraska vehicle storage lot was being flown by a 92-year-old man, police said.
Blair Police Lt. Aaron Barrow said Robert Harrick, of Nickerson, died when his single-engine plane went down in the lot on the south side of Blair around 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
The plane struck a pickup at the Woodhouse dealership lot, which sits on a hill west of U.S. Highway 30.
A manager at the nearby Woodhouse dealership, Dave Kaiser, told the Omaha World-Herald that he and several other employees ran over to the plane to help the pilot, but "he wasn't moving at all."
An autopsy was ordered.
Travis Barrett, a sales manager at the nearby Blair Auto Mall, said he and several co-workers heard a loud noise, and then the lights went off at their business. The plane apparently didn't take down any nearby power lines, officials said.
The plane was listed in federal records as a 1946 Ercoupe 415-C. It normally sits at a hangar in Scribner, which is about 24 miles from Blair.
It was unclear where Harrick was headed when he crashed or where he'd already flown Thursday. The FAA has joined the crash investigation.
