Fatalities up from a year ago as we enter the last month of the year

Only two people lost their lives in traffic accidents over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Still, highway fatalities are up significantly from a year ago. (Listen to) Brent Martin has the story.

The two deaths over the Thanksgiving holiday brings to 188 the total traffic accident fatalities this year, 24 more than a year ago.
But 2011 was an exceptional year, according to Nebraska State Patrol Field Services Major Russ Stanczyk, who says the patrol hopes to end the year without adding to the total.

Two people died in traffic accidents during the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, driving the total deaths on Nebraska highways this year to 188.

The two traffic fatalities over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend increased the total number of highway fatals this year to 188, already well above last year's total of 179 and only two less than in all of 2010.

The number of highway fatalities had been falling the last few years.


After an incredibly low number of traffic fatalities last year, deaths on Nebraska roads are up.
Traffic fatalities last year dropped to a total of 179. They are up to 188 so far this year.
