The National Weather Service says the first major snowfall of autumn could leave up to 4 inches of snow in northwest Nebraska.

A winter weather advisory in effect until 3 p.m. Friday says snow accumulations will range between 2 and 4 inches in the Panhandle, including the cities of Alliance, Chadron and Harrison.

A Dawes County sheriff's dispatcher says snow already had started falling by 2 a.m. Friday in Chadron.

The weather service says low visibility and slick roads will make travel hazardous.
